Our preparation programme is designed to provide students with the skills, confidence and experience needed to prepare for auditions for Level 3 Performing Arts training. This one-year course is ideal for students looking to develop their practical abilities across a broad range of performance disciplines while working towards a UAL (University of the Arts London) Level 2 qualification.
Students train with our experienced faculty of industry professionals, developing their performance technique, audition skills, creativity and research skills within a supportive and inspiring learning environment. Throughout the year, students build a strong foundation in the core disciplines of performing arts while gaining the knowledge and confidence required for further study.
Our Level 3 programmes have an established reputation for delivering high-quality vocational training, with students progressing to leading conservatoires and performing arts colleges across the UK, including ArtsEd, Urdang, Performers College, Bird College and Laine Theatre Arts. The Foundation Programme has become an important stepping stone for students who would benefit from an additional year to strengthen their technical skills, performance experience and confidence before progressing to Level 3 training.
Since its introduction, the Preparation Programme has developed an excellent progression record. Around 50% of students have progressed directly onto ESPA's Level 3 programmes, while others have successfully secured places on performing arts courses at other colleges and training providers. The course is designed to support every student in finding the progression route that best suits their aspirations and development.
The Foundation Programme has been carefully developed to help students build the essential skills required for a successful career in the performing arts or further vocational study. As a fully funded, one-year course, it provides an excellent opportunity for students to develop both practically and creatively while preparing for the demands of Level 3 education.
Throughout the programme, students receive training in voice, dance technique, acting, character development, storytelling, performance techniques and repertoire development. Alongside practical classes, students develop production skills, research methods, reflective practice and professional audition techniques, ensuring they gain a well-rounded understanding of the industry.
Throughout Term 1, students focus on developing the core skills that underpin all areas of performing arts. As the year progresses, students have increasing opportunities to explore their individual strengths and interests, with greater emphasis on performance and access to additional specialist training.
Practical projects throughout the year provide students with valuable experience of rehearsing and performing for live audiences while developing an understanding of production processes and collaborative working. These projects also introduce the communication, research and evaluation skills that underpin assessment at Level 3 and beyond, ensuring students are well prepared for the next stage of their training.
